I am continuing to look at the alcohol free version of my favourite summer drink wheat beer. Today I have been getting to grips with Bavaria Wit Alcohol Free Wheat Beer.
I must admit that I have been looking forward to trying this. It has been sitting in my fridge for some time while I have been trying to get some more information from Bavaria about it. Sadly they have, so far, not been forthcoming. With this in mind it is going to be a straight taste test.
It comes in quite a neat bottle, I am testing the 250ml version here which has a twisty cap. I am not sure if the larger bottles do or not, but it makes little difference really other than non-twist caps are usually carbonated slightly more. The label looks good, but turning it around you find a nightmare of small text in multiple languages. Still, this matters little, it is the taste that counts.
On pouring it holds a wonderful head and has a lovely colour. It is not a scented as some wheat beers. It is unfiltered and therefore has some sediment, not a bad thing in my book, but may not be to everyone’s taste.
Alcohol Free Wheat Beer taste is a personal thing for most people. What I like in a wheat beer may not work for you, so it really is a matter of trying it. I found it slightly lacking in body when compared to Erdinger, but some others who tasted it found it more refreshing.
One stand out thing about Bavaria Wit is that it is a totally alcohol free 0.0% beer. That might that thing that makes it a winner, even if it is slightly behind Erdinger on flavour.
