Party Without Alcohol: Yes You Can!

Alcohol Free Party

Once you have stopped drinking, you may be afraid of exposing yourself to a party with great quantities of alcohol and relapsing. It is advisable that when you have just stopped drinking, it is best to protect yourself from situations where alcohol is present. And although no matter how much time has passed since you stopped drinking, there is always a certain danger of thinking that one drink won’t hurt and ending up doing the same drunken escapades that made you quit initially, it is possible to go out, party and socializing while resisting the temptation of drinking.

Here are a few tips on how to party and socialize alcohol free:

  1. Plan something you really look forward to the morning after the party – That way if you do go to the party, you will want to leave early. The drunks and stupid get there late and you will probably notice that people are not really that fun if they are drunk and you are not. Do yourself a favor, enjoy the party, socialize and pack it up early. You’ll feel really good the next day, while you are enjoying your day and everyone else is not enjoying his or her hangover.
  2. Fake yourself out with alcohol free drinks – I used to drink sparkling water with lemon. Everyone thought I was drinking a vodka tonic and nobody got on my case about not drinking. I distracted myself with the stirrer. For the beer lovers, there is great alcohol free beer in the market these days. You’ll get the taste without the negative effects.
  3. Socialize somewhere else – It may be difficult to imagine, but there IS a complete social calendar in your city that does not involve alcohol. Check out your local newspaper for different and interesting social gatherings that do not involve parties. Go to the movies, theater, take up softball, start a book club, join a bowling league, take a dance lesson on a Friday night. You will probably discover hidden interests that involve socializing, but not a party.
  4. Plan an alcohol free party – A couple of years ago, I had a friend that was an alcoholic. I was planning a party at my house, and after he confessed this to me, I decided to make the party alcohol free. People were surprisingly supportive of the event and whoever wanted to drink, had a few drinks before arriving. Everyone had a great time socializing in my party, we danced all night, did karaoke, we even had a smoothie station. It was, seriously, one of the best parties I have ever been to.

Now that you have found out that your life is much more than drinking, you will have to make adjustments to your social life and you’ll probably take pleasure in different activities. Always remember that the people that truly love you will support your decision and will accompany you, having fun without alcohol.

It is really just a case of getting used to it. If you have been drinking for a long time then it takes time to adjust.

I agree, getting used to it is hard, but once there, it is great fun watching everyone getting drunk, doing things they will be ashamed, and knowing they will have awful hangovers the next morning!! And you can then carry on embarrassing them for hours or even days!

  3. 3 months on and I am still partying alcohol free AND still loving it. I am sleeping better, losing weight and really enjoying myself. Feel sorry for those poor people that feel you can’t possibly enjoy yourself without an alcoholic drink in your hand!
